The kids were so excited for school on Monday and Friday of this week because of all the cool stuff they got to do in gym!!!!
Spelling this week found the kids working not only in Word Work, our last addition to Daily 5 but also learning the ropes for Words Their Way.
In science we continued to look at how friction plays a role in how an object moves. We used carpet, desk tops, and sandpaper.
Another friction experiment, this time it was a virtual lab activity.
Pushing and Pulling....which is easier and why?
Today we continued with our experiments- this time focusing on heavier objects within Push and Pull. Originally, many thought the larger the object the harder it will be to push or pull, but then after several conversations and experiments they realized size doesn't necessarily have to to with how hard you have to work, it is the weight of the object.
Then we worked with magnets and the idea of non-contact force, trying to move the car without touching the car!
Slides, flips and turns was introduced in math this week, along with polygons and a new round of BUILD materials kept the children busy and engaged.
This week we took a backdoor approach to starting our last personal narrative. Instead of just brainstorming and then right away into writing, we talked for several days with a partner about our story to help us see all the details in it. Kids tend to only write a few lines and call that a story- with little to no details. But when they tell the story, look out! They talk so much about it but never realize THAT is all the stuff to include too!
Today we had a Veteran's Day assembly where the kids listened to several veterans speak and we listened as the 4th graders sang patriotic songs. It was nice that Olivia's dad who is also a veteran was there to help us celebrate!
And here are some turkey, hiding from the farmer! They look alittle lonely and are excited for more turkeys to join them :)
One thing to note-
The date is incorrect on the test prep handout that went home- it should be 11-16 as the test as the 15th is the roller coaster day. Most of the kids fixed it but in case they didn't.
Have a great weekend!
