Today's homework can be a little tricky for parents to help their child with so I have put together a little tutorial for you! Since I don't have video capability yet, this is in picture form.
Here is what the problem will look like when your child is done. Note that we split the 14 into its place value 10 & 4. After putting in the 5's (55, 45, etc...) the kids are to place the largest of the numbers they are subtracting....in this case 57 is plotted. Then using the two parts of 14 they are to do the tens first which is one hop back representing subtract 10. Always have them plot the number first, (47) then connect the dots. After the tens place comes the ones place (4). Again subtract 47-4, plot the number then connect the dots. I strongly encourage you to encourage them to write the -10 or -4 ontop of the hop so they can track how much they have subtracted.

3b is very similar except they want you to do the ones place first and then the tens place. Let me know if you have any questions!
There is also doubles homework. Please remind them they are to think the double, then +1 as the strategy to help them remember quickly their facts.
